According to the National Transportation Safety Board, while single-unit trucks comprise only 3% of registered motor vehicles, they are involved in 9% of fatalities among passenger vehicle occupants in multi-vehicle crashes. Citing these types of collisions on dark and unlit roads as more likely to result in serious injury than those that occur during daylight, the NTSB recommends conspicuity treatments on the sides and rear of single-unit trucks.

Retroreflectivity helps the eye perceive objects in low-light conditions when illuminated by a light source. In more scientific terms, retroreflection occurs when light rays are returned in the direction from which they came. Retroreflective materials appear brightest to an observer located near the original light source. Since very little light is scattered when the light is returned, retroreflective materials enhance the contrast of the wearer for an observer located near the original light source.

Benefits of Reflective Material: Reflective material is an easy-to-apply pressure sensitive material that increases a vehicle’s visibility considerably and reduces the risk of collisions involving fleet vehicles. A National Highway Transportation Safety Administration report said the use of reflective materials reduced side and rear impacts resulting in a fatality or injuries in dark conditions by 44 percent. When greater visibility and advance warning of fast-moving emergency and highway vehicles is required at night, our digitally printable, plotter cut and reflective films are ideal for ambulances, police cars, road service and maintenance vehicles.
